The Bubble of 2000 The year 2000 not only marked the start of a new millennium but also the famous internet bubble, also known as the dot-com bubble. The bubble originated in the information technology companies, more specifically those related to the internet. The stocks of the companies pertaining to the IT sector peaked to their highest values. The NASDAQ too crossed the mark of 5100 in March 2000... Moving ahead The recovery phase started in the mid-2000s. Some of the companies started during this phase were able to build large franchises (Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, etc.) and some others were able to establish a footing (like Google). This was a slow but steady and continuous phase of growth. Investors were selective, choosing the winners who would be able to survive and consolidate their positions... Finance Considered to be the second driving force, companies with innovative ideas had easy access to finance and backing by investors. The wealthy individual investors or "Guardian angels" made their presence felt during the 1990s bubble and they were ready to put up their money and know-how even for the tiny startups. There were some super angels like Aydin Senkut and Mike Maples who were playing it big in the venture capital funds and had gathered and invested money from a wide range of investors.. |
